Background At work Curriculum Vitae (CV)

The foundation of my creativity was laid in my childhood. My best friends were two brothers, whose mother was a teacher of arts in Bonn; she gave us the opportunity to try out, combine and to puzzle with all kinds of materials.

We had endless time and space to develop our ideas and talents. Inspired through old Masters like Hieronimus Bosch, Barlach and many others, we created new worlds and fantasy creatures and merged into them.

This earlier time was the most important apprenticeship for me and influenced my work strongly. The urge to be creative has never died.

After many years of autodidactic training, I wanted to learn sculpturing from a well known artist called Bonifatius Stirnberg. After the first contact, which was very informative for me, I decided to hold my apprenticeship at the artistic school (Werkkunstschule) of Flensburg, to get a good background and to find my own style.

In 2003 the time in the north of Germany came to an end. While on a short holiday in West-Africa (Senegal), my attention was drawn towards the artistic work of the Laubé, which means "the masters of wood". These people belong to an ethnic group who produce from generation to generation all kinds of items with wood, e.g. Djembe (African drum), sculptures…all the way to the ritual masks.

In 2006 and 2007 I returned twice for a longer stay in Senegal with these fantastic masters of wood, and in this time I also had the chance to work with other African artists.

This new acquired know-how flows into my work and forms a symbiosis with the European school.
